Yes, that is the same as the web address of this blog (they are both owned by Google.)

I started my Youtube channel in 2018 after we arrived back in the Philippines from Florida, USA.

The first videos are after a storm in Florida, visiting a mall in Angeles City, riding in a tricycle in Cavite, Philippines, visiting a government office in Manila, Rescue kittens Snowball and Ginger.

I have come to appreciate Youtube for allowing me to watch videos.

Watching real people and pets beats watching Hollywood movies!

We have a cute little poodle and a cat who will be subjects of some future videos.

I will be studying how to create and grow a Youtube channel over the next few weeks.

There is a learning curve which one must go through to gain the skills and insights required to create a channel people will like.

Are Ferry Boats Safe in The Philippines?

Worse than the Titanic! Dona Paz burned and sank in December 1987.

I was living in Manila when the Princess of the Stars sank. Fortunately, none of my wife's friends or relatives were aboard. But many people lost their lives and many lost loved ones.

I know people who have sailed on ferry boats in the Philippines without incident. But I choose not to. Flying in the Philippines is the way we have traveled from island to island.

Before you decide to travel by ferry in the Philippines check out this list of maritime disasters in the Philippines.

In the Dona Paz video a survivor says, "I won't ride a ship again, even if it's free." After watching the video, you may decide to travel only by land and air in the Philippines.

There are smaller boats which I would be happy to travel in. For example, small sail boats and catamarans which give rides to tourists in places like Boracay.

July 2, 2015. Hmm, maybe I will not ride in catamarans. See this story about a catamaran which capsized. Fifty-six souls perished when it capsized (at latest count.) See another story and video about the disaster.

Some more advice

"Ferry accidents occur. Some vessels are poorly maintained and overcrowded. Accidents are more prevalent during the rainy season as storms can develop quickly. As a result, local authorities may suspend ferry services on short notice when a storm signal is raised, even if the weather is clear. You could get stranded at ports for several days.

If travelling by sea:

• use only a reliable company.
• don’t board vessels that appear overloaded or unseaworthy.
• make sure you have access to a life jacket.
• plan for extra time, especially during the rainy season" (excerpt from travel.qc.ca).

Update June 19, 2023, from an article at The Manila Times titled

"PH ferry with up to 65 people onboard catches fire at sea, rescue underway."

"Sea accidents are common in the Philippines because of frequent storms, badly maintained vessels, overcrowding and spotty enforcement of safety regulations, especially in remote provinces."

Other forms of transportation in the Philippines are bicycle, motorcycle, airplane, bus, taxi, jeepney, train, tricycle and pedicab.

Are you tired of the everyday routine of life in the USA? Are you burned out from working hard for many years? Do you want a change of scene? Are you ready to begin an adventurous "retirement"? I cannot think of a better place to get away to! Believe me, I have experienced it firsthand.

Everything is different here. After all it is halfway across the earth from the USA. What do you expect?

It is not a carbon copy of the USA. Very little is the same. Maybe some malls and skyscrapers in Manila seem familiar but nothing else will.

Most Filipinos have learned English in school but use it mainly to communicate with us Americans. I actually love not being able to speak their language. When dining out or eating in fast food restaurants it is relaxing not to be able to understand what they are saying. I do hear the occasional "kano" which is short for Americano. I don't know what they are saying, and I don't care. In five years, I have learned enough Tagalog (Filipino) to use for travel but not much more. For example, it helps to learn words and phrases to use when riding in jeepneys (read this article to learn the words and phrases), buses, tricycles and pedicabs. Most Filipinos living in Manila speak "Taglish" which is a combination of Tagalog and English. Outside the Greater Manila area, in the provinces, people speak their own local distinct dialects.

I have lived in Angeles City and Magalang (both in Pampanga Province) and in Paranaque City (in Greater Manila.) Have traveled to Bataan, Batangas, Cavite, Cebu City, Dasmarinas, Mexico, Olongapo, Quezon City, San Fernando and Subic City. Have flown 850 miles South of Manila to Cagayan de Oro and the Southernmost city, General Santos City, on the island of Mindanao without incident. Hope you enjoy your adventures in the Philippines.
